RAVA Events & Show Pictures

We kicked off April with a RAVA sponsored Show & Shine at Gene's Drive Inn right in the basement of Downtown Redding. The event prooved to be quite large despite the weather. It literally stopped raining just as people started parking their cars. It was my first show I have ever put my bug in, but I was anxious to see other vw's that would come to show off their stuff. Thanks to Jack Cooper, we have these awesome photos to share with everyone. Some of the large files are loading at 13 seconds on 28k connections, but I assure you, those are the ones that are worth the wait. (Click on thumbnails for larger view)

Just like a well-trained hoe (the garden-tool), my car works the corners and looks great while doing it, huh?

The first annual Hot Autorama Car Show was a lot of fun for those who are seriously burned out by all the out-of-towners & political disputes that have overcome and taken over Kool April Nites. I would have to say that for the amount of spectators, in addition to the people that entered their vehicles in the car show, Hot Autorama was a big hit! There were 300+ cars in the show, and the ratio of spectators to showers was at least 10 to 1. RAVA only had a few VWs in the show, mostly members, a two of which who received great recognition. The best thing (my opinion) about the Hot Autorama show was, if you entered your car in the show, you were automatically a judge for all the other classes! "People's Choice" awards, from people who are most into the classic car phenomena enough to enter their own cars into the contest! I love it! (Click on thumbnails for larger view)

Congratulations to Tom Dodson (member) for the trophy "Best Stock VW" at Hot Autorama! This bug is really something, I've never seen so many stock parts on a bug- Tom put it all together without over-crowding the accessories.

Bug-O-Rama time! The Memorial Day Weekend Bug-O-Rama at the Sacramento Speedway was another great one! A couple of our members had stuff out there to swap, others went to show, and THREE of our members all placed SECOND in their class!!! Congrats to our Vice President, Mark Hoppes on second place in the "Ratty Rod" class. He placed for his Volkswagen-Powered "P.O.S."!!! Also, our Club Advisor, Tom Dodson placed second in the Best Stock Split/Oval Window class. He deserves it, his bug is so awesome! And finally, as seen on the Member Rides page, (and below) Jack Cooper's georgeous stock '66 placed second in the Best '59 to '67 class! Congrats Members!

This event was a lot of fun, from the tri-tip bbq that came with our entry ticket, to the mass quantities of Harley's parked down Front Street. Yeah, you heard right, they actually closed off Front Street in Cottonwood for this event. There were over 100 Harley Davidson motorcycles parked down the left-hand turn lane, and about 150 cars parked on each side of Front Street. A great time was had by all, the only complaints were about finding shade! We found our shade in front of the Old Town Eatery (and some ice cold water inside).

Back in July we did a VW's only car show INSIDE the Mt. Shasta Mall in Redding, CA. There's just nothing like driving your car into the mall... And, not to brag, but my bug was the only one that didn't get oil on the cookie sheet under the engine!!! Thanks Karen for loaning me that cookie sheet by the way! There were 2 cars that didn't get their pictures taken, Tom's beautiful brown Bug (that usually places best of stock at the shows) and the new 2004 Toureag loaned to the show from Chico VW (sorry guys).
